Course Selection 2022-23: Social Studies, CTE Computer Science, and CTE Psychology

As we move into our course selection window we will continue to highlight different academic departments and CTE pathways each day.

Social Studies
The goal of social studies teachers is to offer students the opportunity to learn about the world and their place in it by developing their inquiry-based critical thinking, reading, writing, and discussion skills. MHHS graduation requirements require that students take 3.5 years of social studies. Students looking for a greater challenge can take AP courses in World History (10th grade), US History (11th grade), Psychology 10th-12th grade), Government (12th grade), and Economics (12th grade). These are some of our most popular AP courses at MHHS and our students traditionally have a high success rate on the AP exam.
CTE Computer Science
Computer Science is one of the 8 Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways that we offer. Courses in the CTE program differ from other courses in that students are immersed in hands-on learning experiences that model current industry practices. All CTE pathways culminate in a capstone course in which students demonstrate their learning in projects that they design. Computer Science is our second most popular CTE pathway with 294 students this year. Many also participate in hackathons, robotics, coding, and esports competitions. Students in the Computer Science pathway are jump starting their careers in Computer and Information Systems Management, Computer User Support Specialist, Database Administrator, Document Management Specialist, Business Intelligence Analyst, and many more.
CTE Psychology
CTE Psychology is not a fully developed pathway yet but it still offers the same types of hands-on learning activities that distinguish all CTE courses. This year we are adding two new courses to the pathway with Sports and Social Psychology. Each is a semester-long course taken back-to-back to make a full year.

Course Registration Window
Counselors will be in ELA classrooms to walk students through the course selection process over the next few weeks. The course registration window is open from 2/1-2/11 and students will be able to choose their courses during that time in Aeries.
