Course Selection 2022-23: Focus on the Arts

Our final day of highlights focuses on our arts programs and all of the opportunities our students have to create, perform, cook, and express themselves. Taking classes in the arts is essential to becoming a well-rounded and interesting person. Be sure to attend our Virtual Parent Information Night tomorrow 2/9 @ 6:30.

Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)
Graduation requirements include 1 year of visual or performing art OR 1 year of a foreign language. Those who are looking to be fully UC/CSU eligible must take 1 year of visual or performing art. Our visual and performing art offering span studio art, ceramics, choir, band, orchestra, guitar, and theater. Students who take classes in VAPA have state-of-the art performance spaces including our brand new theater and ceramics shop.
CTE Media Arts
Students in the Media Arts pathway use the same high end video equipment and editing software that is used in the industry. We host our own Mustang studios where students work on various projects including our student news program, documentaries, and narrative films. Exploring the history of film students will learn about the impact of changing technology and the career opportunities available in the world of film, design, and broadcasting. Students accomplishing the pathway will enter college or the workforce with resume building skills like leadership, presentation ability, writing and design strengths, as well as technical knowledge of film equipment and computing and editing software.
CTE Culinary Arts
Students in the Culinary Arts program take their classes in our on campus food lab and full restaurant kitchen. This is a very popular CTE pathway with 231 students this year. The pathway takes students through basic food preparation and safety instruction in the first year to serving as professional level caterers in the capstone in which they prepare and serve food at school events. This pathway is perfect for students interested in the culinary arts and hospitality industry (caterer, chef, sports nutrition, food writer, restaurant/hotel manager, baker, health inspector, food service director, food technologist, etc.) as well as for students who want to explore the realities of small business ownership.
