PSAT/NMSQT Registration

PSAT Registration

The PSAT/NMSQT test will be offered at Mountain House High School on Saturday, October 16th. All sophomores and juniors are eligible and highly encouraged to take this test to prepare for the SAT exam. All sophomores will have an additional opportunity to take the PSAT10 in the spring, more details will be sent out closer to spring. The PSAT is a multiple-choice assessment of verbal, mathematics, and writing skills.

The PSAT/NMSQT is an optional test that provides practice for the SAT Reasoning Test through personalized feedback of student performance with suggestions for improvement. The SAT Reasoning Test, taken later in the junior year can be used as a standardized test in college applications and may be helpful for students wanting to pursue admission to highly competitive colleges or universities. PSAT also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT). Top-performing juniors nationally (approximately 1%) may be eligible for money through National Merit, National Achievement, or National Hispanic Scholarship funds.

Seats for the exam are limited and students are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. The cost for taking the PSAT is $20 and can be paid for in person at the front desk or online at the MHHS webstore. The deadline for purchasing a place for the October sitting is Friday, September 14th.

More information about the PSAT including sample test questions can be found here.

The College Board also has excellent resources, guides, and action plans to help parents plan for college: Big Future by the College Board

The PSAT 8/9 specifically designed for students in 8th and 9th grades will also be offered this year in the spring. More details will be coming out soon.

Grade Change Option for Spring and Summer Courses

We are excited to be back in school and are enjoying the positive energy as we kick the year off. While we move forward, we also want to let you know about some important updates regarding grades from last semester. On July 1, 2021, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill 104 (AB-104) into law. AB-104 provides learning recovery options for students who struggled with low grades as a result of distance learning during the pandemic.

Letter Grade to Pass “CR” or No Pass “NC” Change Provision

The provision allows any student enrolled in a Mountain House High School course during the spring semester of 2021 or during summer school 2021 to replace a letter grade with a Pass (CR) or No Pass (NC) designation.

Automatic Replacement of D and F Grades

To support students the following actions will be taken automatically:

  1. Students who received a “D” in any spring semester or summer school 2021 course will automatically have the “D” replaced with a “CR” on their transcript.

  2. Students who received an “F” in any spring semester or summer school 2021 course will automatically have the “F” replaced with an “NC” on their transcript.

Grades that receive CR or NC on a transcript do not negatively impact GPA.

Option for Replacing A, B, or C Grades

Any A, B, or C grade can be changed to a Pass “CR”. The process of changing a grade requires that students complete the following Letter Grade to CR Change Application. Students will be able to request the change to “CR” of spring semester and/or summer school, as applicable, and they should indicate the grade level they were in during the 2020-21 school year. The change to “CR” grades will not be done automatically and students have to request it.

Completion of the request requires parent approval in the form or an electronic signature at the end of the form.

Students must be logged in to their lammersvilleusd.net account to fill out this form and will only be allowed to submit it one (1) time.

Colleges and University Considerations

  • Grades of CR will award students the credit they need towards graduation and college readiness.

  • Grades of NC will not award credit and students may have to retake these courses in order to graduate, or prepare to apply for college.

  • D grades do impact GPA, but they also award needed credit towards graduation.  Most colleges and universities do not accept D grades for purposes of college entrance.  Students can retake a course with a D grade as a replacement for the D.

  • It is important for students and families to know that the California State University system must accept CR or NC grades without prejudice for any applicant enrolled in high school between 2020-21 and 2023-24. UC schools have also agreed to accept CR and NC grades for purposes of application.

  • Some postsecondary educational institutions, including those in other states, may not accept a CR or NC grade instead of a letter grade for admission purposes.

  • A list of postsecondary institutions that will accept, for admission purposes, a transcript with a CR or NC grade instead of a letter grade for an applicant pursuant to Education Code 49066.5(b) can be found here: California Department of Education AB 104 Postsecondary Institution Survey Results

***The Pass “CR” grade change option is only available to MHHS students for fifteen (15) calendar days following the date of this notification.

Deadline to Submit Grade Change Applications is Saturday, September 4, 2021

If you have any specific questions about this process, or would like to provide feedback, feel free to reach out to our administrators and counselors at this time.

Italian Exchange Student Looking for a Host

Cultural Homestay International places several students at MHHS each year, and their presence enriches the lives of our students.  We currently have several students at our school from all around the world staying with host families right here in Mountain House.  There is an exchange student out there looking to come to the U.S. and her time is running out to find a family.  Take a look at the request she sent to us:

"Hi, my name is Carolina Bagnasco, I am an Italian student inscribed to a student exchange program in force to come to the US for begin the next school year. I applied all the documents with Italian agency named WEP that is linked to local agency CHI (Cultural Homestay International).
I already applied for visa type J1 (sponsored by CHI) to be retrieved next august 20th in Milan US consulate.
Unfortunately, both Italian and local agencies due to contingent Covid19 situations experienced trouble to find the hosting family and relevant school.
Since the time is expiring and WEP is actually not giving us too many expectations got me really desperate.
I am writing this mail as last chance to find a suitable school that welcomes me and help me to find a hosting family. Please note that according to WEP and CHI policies the hosting families are not paid for the services. Hosting family has to provide food, accommodation and a son equivalent treatment. Other expenses remain in my due. In any case the family will be contacted and instructed by the local reference of CHI.
Hope your organization be able to solve this dramatic situation within short time, please accept my thanks in advance for you effort.
Best regards, Carolina Bagnasco"

Please call or text Ceci, Area Coordinator of Cultural Homestay International for more information or to get your application and background check started. 209-787-0305. chinet.org

First Day Reminders

Mustang 'Ohana!, with almost 2000 students this year, traffic can be like a Mustang Stampede.  Use caution and remember there are multiple entrances to campus.  The front entrance will not be the quickest route.  Use the Mustang Way lot entrance or the rear entrance on Tradition for quick access.  Also remember to bring your masks and wear them while indoors on campus today.  Remember to bring your ID cards as well.  Breakfast and lunch are free this year but you will need your ID card to scan at the front of the food lines.  Check the Aeries online portal or the Aeries App on your phone for your most up-to-date schedule as your schedule may have changed.

We look forward to seeing all of you Mustangs back on campus today!
