Reading Contest

CHALLENGE YOURSELF
PARTICIPATE IN THE READING CONTEST

To celebrate Black History Month, we’re hosting a contest, “Beyond the Classroom Reading.”  The book of the month for February is “To Kill A Mockingbird.”   Some of you may already be familiar with this book.  The contest will challenge you to become a forensic literary scientist by paying attention to the small details of the written plot.

Your librarians, Mrs. H, and library assistant, Ms. Korde, believe that by participating in “Beyond the Classroom Reading” you may learn the study skills that may become critical to pass exams at higher level institutions that often like to challenge their students with the “blueprint text” questions.

So, CHALLENGE YOURSELF and PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST.  The contest runs from February 15 to March 7.  The winner of the contest, who answers all the eight questions correctly, will receive 2 gift cards valued at $5 each to Subway and 1 gift card valued at $5 to Starbucks.  3 finalists who only miss 1 question out of 8, will receive 1 gift card with a $5 value to Subway.

The Rules of the Contest:

Visit the library as soon as possible
Check-out the book from the library (if you have a copy of the book at home, you need to let your librarian know about the book.  Also, add your name to the participants’ name list.)
Read the book
Answer the questions (the questions will be shared with the participant in Google docs format.  Also, we will print out the questions, if anyone wants to submit answers in writing).
Submit your answers by March 6.
The finalists’ names will be announced on March 7.
Visit the library on March 8 to participate in the raffle tickets event.
The raffle tickets (the first prize and winner) will be distributed among finalists and potential winners during the lunch period.
The winner and 3 finalists will receive the gift cards.

Brought to you by The Learning Commons....so much more than just books.

Hitachi Inspire Education Loan

Hitachi Inspire Education Loan

Mountain House High School was lucky enough to be selected to work with Hitachi’s STEM Outreach program.  It’s  mission is to “ to inspire the next generation of innovative pioneers through the advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics”.  .Hitachi provided the the TM3030, our tabletop electron microscope to the MHHS Biomedical program for a week.  During the week students brought in tiny items to examine under the microscope.  The array of items was wide and included human hair, dog hair, an ant, a small bug, a pastel, a mint, a penny, pencil lead, salt, fabric, yarn, thread, paper, petals, leaves and more.  Students learned to operate the TM3030.  They took photos of their objects and calculated the size of their objects seen up close in nanometers.  Subsequent to this activity the students will investigate the use of nanotechnology in medicine.  The group of students above was viewing the images below of a small bug.

We would like to thank Hitachi for the amazing loan.   It was a fun and educational experience that enhanced the Mountain House Biomedical program.
