Mock Trial 2020

For the past several weeks, led by their coach, Eric Feinstein, thirty two students from Mountain House High school participated in the San Joaquin County Mock Trial competition.  The students receive a fictitious case in September and have been preparing for the competition all year.  Students prepared a prosecution and defense case in chief by taking on the roles of attorneys, witnesses, bailiff, and courtroom clerk.  They participated in six rounds of competition, with the varsity team taking 3rd place in the county.  They also took two junior varsity teams to the competition and they placed 1st and 2nd in the junior varsity league. Sixteen of the students took home individual awards for their attorney, witness, and clerk roles.

In addition to learning the ins and outs of the legal system like questioning witnesses, performing opening statements, and arguing objections, students learned teamwork, critical thinking, gained confidence, and have shown that they can skillfully think on their feet.
