EPIC Academy at MHHS

The Alternative Education Department at Mountain House High School is launching a new program next year called EPIC Academy (Empower, Personalize, Innovate, Collaborate,) for students at-risk of not graduating on time and/or students that are struggling with the traditional school model.
Beginning next fall our “Alt Ed students” (as they are now referred to,) will be “EPIC students.” They will be on campus with us 3 days a week, engaging in face to face instruction with our dedicated teachers. The other two days, (and this is where I am looking for networks with YOU,) we will be matching students up with community partners to do job shadowing, internships, service learning, and work experience. Students will earn academic credit by using the “community as a classroom” and learning valuable 21st century skills to help them succeed beyond high school.

Our teachers will be assisting in transportation and our goal is to match students up with job sites that reflect their own personal strengths, interests, and values. Job shadows can be from 2-4 hours and internships can last between 6 weeks through an entire semester.

Please let me know if you’d be willing to have one of our students shadow you at your job site. They are all wonderful kids.

We are also accepting donations of new or gently used professional clothing for our students to access and seeking monetary sponsorship from community members. Please contact me at kperez@lammersvilleusd.net if you have any questions or would like to make a donation or provide a job shadow or work experience opportunity.
