ID Card Expectations

ID cards are our first line of defense in identifying who is on our campus.  With safety being a hot-button issue in our schools today, it is essential that we be able to identify our students at our school quickly and efficiently.  As a result, we are emphasizing the expectation for ALL of our students, faculty, and staff to wear their ID cards ALL of the time.

ID cards are also the method we use to identify where students should be at all times of the day.  Identifying information like Flex period, Senior Off Campus Lunch, and ASB discounts are all a part of the ID here at MHHS.

We continue to emphasize the importance of wearing ID cards while on campus at all times.  The ID card must be worn and visible all day on the upper part of a student's body.  We continue to make this a huge school wide effort as the importance of being able to identify anyone one campus at all times helps keep our campus safe.

If you have lost your ID, or it has been broken, please visit the ASB Bank in the main office to obtain a new copy of your ID.

Vaping--The New Tobacco and Drug Epidemic

Educators nationwide have seen a huge epidemic rise in teen use of e-cigarettes, or vaping.  If you haven't had a discussion in your family about vaping and the effects it has to health and well-being, its time to do it now.  Administration an MHHS have observed the epidemic hit MHHS with both nicotine and THC cartridges being used and sold among students.  We are doing our best to stem the tide of this new epidemic, but we need parent and student help.  What can you do?  Educate yourself about the signs and dangers of e-cigarette use, and start a conversation at home.

Here are two great resources to start the conversation:

Happy Holi

We would like to wish all of our students and their families who celebrate Holi in the Mustang and Mountain House Community a Happy Holi celebration.
This time of year our Hindu students and their families celebrate Holi.  This spring festival is also known as the "festival of colors" and it celebrates the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and the end of winter.  Happy Holi to our students and families!

EPIC Academy at MHHS

The Alternative Education Department at Mountain House High School is launching a new program next year called EPIC Academy (Empower, Personalize, Innovate, Collaborate,) for students at-risk of not graduating on time and/or students that are struggling with the traditional school model.
Beginning next fall our “Alt Ed students” (as they are now referred to,) will be “EPIC students.” They will be on campus with us 3 days a week, engaging in face to face instruction with our dedicated teachers. The other two days, (and this is where I am looking for networks with YOU,) we will be matching students up with community partners to do job shadowing, internships, service learning, and work experience. Students will earn academic credit by using the “community as a classroom” and learning valuable 21st century skills to help them succeed beyond high school.

Our teachers will be assisting in transportation and our goal is to match students up with job sites that reflect their own personal strengths, interests, and values. Job shadows can be from 2-4 hours and internships can last between 6 weeks through an entire semester.

Please let me know if you’d be willing to have one of our students shadow you at your job site. They are all wonderful kids.

We are also accepting donations of new or gently used professional clothing for our students to access and seeking monetary sponsorship from community members. Please contact me at kperez@lammersvilleusd.net if you have any questions or would like to make a donation or provide a job shadow or work experience opportunity.

Help Beat Pediatric Cancer

Cancer is the number one cause of death by disease among children. Since 1980, fewer than 10 drugs have been developed for use in children with cancer. Further, only three drugs have been approved for use in children and four additional new drugs have been approved for use by both adults and children. Donating to the National Pediatric Cancer Research helps fund clinical trials to find faster cures specifically for pediatric cancer.

Please donate today and help support the cause. Whether you donate $5 or $500, every little bit helps. Your contribution and support is greatly appreciated.

Students from Mountain House High School's Black Student Union attended the regional BSU conference held at CSU Monterey.  The conference focuesd on the history of African American students, professors, doctors, lawyers, teachers, philosophers and engineers, that have left their mark on the world. The conference was amazing and the students learned so much on how to "Learn it, Live it, Love it," and how to become more of a voice in their community. There were 76 schools at the conference 367 students. Our Mountain House students were among only 75 students selected to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  Mountain House students also won a prize for having the best "vision board."  Students were given the challenge to create the board in only 10 minutes and came out as winners!

Mountain House High School Speech and Debate team continues to rake in the awards in multiple categories.  Our team has performed so well that 17 of our students will be moving on to the state competition in May.  We are so proud of our Speech and Debate team, and wish them luck as they compete at the state level.

Mock Trial Results

A big congratulations goes to our Mock Trial team this school year.  The competition came to a close on February 23rd as our varsity and JV team helped MHHS finish in the top 4 in the entire competition! Since we are such a new team, this win is huge, and we are on the heels of the perpetual winners.
Please join us in congratulating our Mock Trial team.  They all have worked so hard for the entire year!
Special congratulations to Dominion Aiku, Oliver Luong, Charlee Evans, Katie Flanagan, Avni Singh, Lena Kameda, Max Reyes, Nicole Bittar, and Sarah Amir for all winning individual awards.
And give an extra special congratulations to Sarah Amir as she not only won an award, she also was awarded a 500 dollar scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a student who embodies what a Mock trial competitor should be in every aspect. What that really means is she was the best competitor in the entire competition. It is extremely hard to do, it is quite the honor and very well deserved.

This year, the Mountain House Blue Team walked away with 9 1st place medals, 5 2nd place medals, 1 3rd place medal, 4 4th place medals, 3 5th place medals, and 1 6th place medal. Overall, the Blue team came in FIRST place.

SJCOE also awards the Meredith Davis Perpetual Award to the first place Division C team every year. This year, MHHS Blue team will be bringing home this trophy, breaking an EIGHTEEN YEAR winning streak for Tokay HS. That is quite the upset!

Our team has also been featured in the MH Matters! newspaper.  Check out their article HERE

Seriously, y'all. Our kids are amazing!
