IMPORTANT WARNING!!!

MHHS administration has learned of a new application called "Periscope" that our students have begun using on campus through their smartphones.  This application allows students to publicly stream live video of themselves and others while on our campus.  The application either pairs with students' Twitter accounts or their phone numbers.  While we traditionally encourage the use of digital applications, we believe that parents should be aware of this application as we believe that it can significantly violate our students' privacy.  This application broadcasts live video of the student, and allows ANYONE in the world who has this application to view this video live OR replayed back after the video is completed.  It also pinpoints where the user is on a GPS map.  A LARGE group of our students have begun using this app on our campus, and we will be communicating with them about the use of this application.  Also important to remember in regards to recording on school campuses is the fact that it is against the law in the State of California for any individual to record audio or video on school campuses without the express permission of teachers and administration.  After we communicate this with students, those found using this application while on our campus will be subject to disciplinary action.  If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
