"What's My Grade?" - Episode 1

Last week’s communication about grades was full of information, and we want to continue to highlight pieces of that communication so that you can understand the policy and procedure for grading during distance learning.  We’ll be doing this by visiting some frequently asked questions we’re hearing on a regular basis.

Today’s “What’s My Grade?” update FAQ is:  “I thought my grade couldn’t go down during distance learning!  Why is my grade dropping in Canvas?”

This question was answered in our “Distance Learning Grading Process” communication on 4/23/2020.  It says this:
“Teachers are continuing to grade work as it is turned in as a means for providing feedback to              parents and students about their progress in the course in the event that they request a letter
grade.  It is possible a grade in Canvas or Edgenuity may go down from the 3rd quarter
grade...We will not put a letter grade on any student’s transcript that is lower than their 3rd
quarter letter grade. Students whose grades drop below the 3rd quarter grade will automatically
receive the designation of Credit on their transcript.”

“Mr. Fobert, that’s confusing, what does that really mean?”
What this means is:

  • Teachers are assigning work and you are expected to do it.
  • Teachers will continue to grade work and input grades in Canvas.
  • Your grade in Canvas can go up or down depending on the quality and quantity of work you turn in.
  • If you had a passing grade at the Quarter and your grade drops at all, you will automatically be given Credit “CR” for your semester grade and you will not have the opportunity to request a letter grade.
  • If you did not have a passing grade at the Quarter, you need to work to get it up to a passing grade before the end of the semester.
