As we come to the close of this year, we want to commend all of you for your hard work and perseverance in the face of overwhelming change. This school year has definitely been a year for the history books. As you know, semester grades will be calculated differently this year due to the circumstance in which we find ourselves and the fast-pace in which we had to transition to distance learning. Please read this communication carefully as it contains information about choices you have in regards to your semester grades.
At this time, inquiries about your grade should not be sent to teachers. Any student who sends an email in regards to their grade at this time will be directed to administration to discuss and resolve their concerns. If you have questions about your grades during this time, we encourage you to fill out this form: https://tinyurl.com/grade-question
There are two main options for you to choose from.
OPTION #1
All of your grades are automatically defaulted to Credit (CR), D, or No Credit (NC). These grades will be calculated using a combination of your 3rd quarter grade and the final grade reflected in the Canvas Gradebook for each of your classes. You DO NOT need to submit requests for ANY class for which you would like “CR” or “NC” grades. Please refer to the table below to determine what your grade will be if you decide to take the automatic default grade:
- Please remember that CR and NC grades will not be used to calculate GPA for the Spring 2020 semester, and will also not be used to recalculate your overall total GPA now, or in the future. These grades will neither negatively or positively impact your GPA.
- Grades of CR will award students the credit they need towards graduation and college readiness.
- Grades of NC will not award credit and students may have to retake these courses in order to graduate, or prepare to apply for college.
- D grades do impact GPA, but they also award needed credit towards graduation. Most colleges and universities do not accept D grades for purposes of college entrance. Students can retake a course with a D grade as a replacement for the D. Courses may be retaken through summer school, online credit recovery lab, or face-to-face during the regular school year.
OPTION #2
You may choose to request a letter grade for all or some of your classes this semester. This means that if you request a letter grade, your 3rd quarter grade and the final grade reflected in Canvas Gradebook will be combined to give you the final semester grade on your transcript. Please note that once a student has requested a letter grade, they may not opt out. Please refer to the table below to determine what your grade will be if you decide to request a letter grade:
- All letter grades will calculate the same as they would in any other regular semester.
- You can request letter grades for some courses and not for others.
The deadline for letter grade requests is Monday 5/18/20 at 11:59 P.M.
Students must be logged in to their lammersvilleusd.net account to fill out this form and will only be allowed to submit it one (1) time.
or would like to provide feedback, feel free to reach out to our administrators and counselors at this time. Remember, if you have specific questions about a particular grade, please submit your questions here: https://tinyurl.com/grade-question
Sincerely,
MHHS Administration
