Junior Achievement Innovation Day
Several of our MHHS students had the opportunity to participate in Junior Achievement's first annual Tech and Innovation day. Junior Achievement is an organization established to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Their first annual Tech and Innovation day focused on partnering high school students in the East Bay Area with some of the region's leading professionals in technology for an inspiring day of hands-on workshops and career mentorship. Participating in this year's event were volunteer professionals from AT&T, Robert Half, Intel, Cisco, Capital One and SAP. Students attended workshops on design thinking, project management, and took part in coding activities. Three of our students, Carla Contreras, Adya Mishra, and Preeti Juturu, were featured in the first annual event's promotional video. Check it out:
Early College Pathway Wins National School Board Association Magna Award
The 24th annual Magna Awards program sponsored by the National School Boards Association’s flagship magazine, American School Board Journal (ASBJ) has recognized school districts and their leaders for their efforts to bring educational equity to their students.
The Magna Awards, honor districts across the country for programs that break down barriers for
underserved students. A panel of school board members, administrators, and other educators selected the winners from more than 100 submissions. “Educational equity is a crucial issue today,” said Thomas J. Gentzel, National School Boards Association. “These Magna Award winning districts are examples of how public schools all over the country are making sure each of their students gets the support and services they need to succeed in school and in life.”
Lammersville Unified School District and Mountain House High School is a first place winner of the Magna award this year, and is featured in the American School Board Journal magazine. CLICK HERE to read the full article published in this national magazine.

Reading Contest Winners
In February 15 MHHS students participated in our first ever "Beyond the Classroom" reading contest. This first contest was in honor of Black History Month and students read the book "To Kill a Mockingbird." While reading the book the students were asked to become forensic library scientists, paying attention to small details of the written plot, and answering questions as they read the book. Of the 15 students who participated, 5 students were finalists and won prizes like a Starbucks gift card, and Subway Sandwich certificates. All 15 participants were treated to a Pizza party to promote the reading contest.
Thanks to our Learning Commons Learning Director Mrs. H for coordinating this event and Congratulations to our finalists and winners!

Student Free Speech
As you are probably aware, there is a nationwide effort to encourage students to walk-out of school on March 14th as a way to recognize and honor the lives of the 17 people killed in Florida some weeks ago. The remembrance is scheduled from, 10:00 a.m. to 10:17 a.m. to recognize the need for school safety. We know you entrust us with your child's safety. Your child's safety is our first priority. While we honor and respect the thoughts and ideas of our students, we also expect all students to remain on campus and not miss their educational day. Those who choose to leave campus or not return to class are subject to an unexcused absence.
For those students who are interested, Mountain House High School will provide a forum to express concerns related to the incident in Florida. As is always the case, students are expected to be respectful of each other's opinions and adhere to school rules. This is an opportunity for all of us to recognize recent tragedies and work together to honor those lost in an educational and positive way. Students at MHHS will have the opportunity to gather in the Learning Commons during the school day to discuss their feelings and opinions. We believe that the nationally advertised walk-out is an effort for students to stand in solidarity with students across the nation to share their opinions about a political issue, and we want them to be a part of that conversation. We will have opportunities during the day for students to share their opinions on a free speech wall in the College and Career center room, and an opportunity to express their opinions verbally after school in an open forum.
We encourage all of our students to participate throughout their day during Brunch, Lunch, and Flex Periods, and for the open forum after school.
