• 5pm-8pm Open House in Large Gym. Come visit our fair and learn more about all of the classes and programs Mountain House High School has to offer. All current students and incoming Freshmen Students are welcome during this open house event.

• MANDATORY 8th Grade Parent Scheduling Meeting from 6pm to 7pm in the Multi-Use Room. This meeting will cover all of the essential information you need for your student to choose their Freshman Courses, learn about requirements for graduation, and college planning.

• 9-11th grade Parent Scheduling Information meeting 7pm-8pm in Multi-Use Room. This is for parents of continuing students. Information about high school graduation requirements, course selections for the coming year, and college planning.

• Learn about elective programs

• Meet MHHS Counselors and Administration

• Learn about Honors and AP Programs

• Develop or revise your 4 year plan for High School Graduation and College Entrance

Hitachi Inspire Education Loan

Hitachi Inspire Education Loan

 Mountain House High School was lucky enough to be selected to work with Hitachi’s STEM Outreach program.  It’s  mission is to “ to inspire the next generation of innovative pioneers through the advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics”.  .Hitachi provided the the TM3030, our tabletop electron microscope to the MHHS Biomedical program for a week.  During the week students brought in tiny items to examine under the microscope.  The array of items was wide and included human hair, dog hair, an ant, a small bug, a pastel, a mint, a penny, pencil lead, salt, fabric, yarn, thread, paper, petals, leaves and more.  Students learned to operate the TM3030.  They took photos of their objects and calculated the size of their objects seen up close in nanometers.  Subsequent to this activity the students will investigate the use of nanotechnology in medicine.  The group of students above was viewing the images below of a small bug.

We would like to thank Hitachi for the amazing loan.   It was a fun and educational experience that enhanced the Mountain House Biomedical program.

Health and Fitness Expo 2018

This Saturday, February 10th, we will be hosting a Health and Fitness Expo with something for everyone. It is FREE and open to the entire community. Here is an overview of what will be there:

• Free health screenings (diabetes, heart, nutrition, dental, vision, ect.)
• Engaging Speakers (nutrition, mental health, dental/orthodontics, transplants, bone health, overcoming health problems, teenage safety and driving, financial aid, student speeches "Create your Future" and " Gene Editing: Cures or Scary Science?"
• Information Booths (fire and emergency preparedness, quit smoking, meditation, health products, fitness products, MADD, health education)
• Exhibits (MADD Crash Car, Diversity in Healthcare, Health Career Displays, Health Career Photography)
• Classes (Insanity, Core and Yoga/Meditation)
• Lots of giveaways (just show up and register to be eligible)
• Food Trucks

Cash for College

Cash for College and Community College Representatives Available on Feb 10th

Mountain House High School is proud to announce a Cash For College Presentation and Workshop presented by Jonathon MIranda.  This is open to the entire community.  The Presentation will be in the Learning Commons at 9:30am on Saturday Feb 10th.  It will cover all aspects of applying for financial aid for college.  Jonathon will be available until 4pm to help anyone  who would like one-on-one help with their financial aid applications.  Please bring a computer and as many of the following as possible to work on your financial aid applications with Jonathon. 

• Driver's license
• Social Security Card or Number (if applicable)
• Alien registration number, if you are not a U.S. citizen
• Student 2016 income information
• Parent 2016 income information (if dependent)
• Student taxes and parents' tax information; previous year taxes are okay
• Any records of untaxed income such as welfare benefits, social security benefits, or child support payments

Wednesday February 7th at 4:00 P.M. in the Learning Commons is our quarterly School Site Council meeting where we will be discussing our Accreditation report prior to our full accreditation visit in March.  If you haven't attended Site Council before NOW IS THE TIME! 

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges is the organization that provides Accreditation for all schools in the Western United States, and it is essential that we have student and parent input and participation in the process.  Come to give your feedback and be a part of the plan for the continued improvement of our school.

Health and Fitness Expo by HOSA

Winter Percussion and Winter Guard Competition Wins!

This past Saturday the Winter Guard & Percussion program competed at Enochs High School in Modesto.
Winter Guard received 2nd place out of 6 groups moving up several places from the end of last year's season.
Winter Percussion received 1st place out of 5 groups, also a great improvement from last year's performances.
Both of our groups did a great job and represented our school and community with pride and excellence.

Lady Mustang Wrestlers Win Big

This last weekend the Girls Wrestling Team competed in the Sac-Joaquin Southern Regional Tournament. This tournament featured wrestlers from Los Banos to Tracy. There were over 250 girls who competed in 13 weight classes with the top 8 placers advancing to the Sac-Joaquin Masters Tournament (Northern & Southern Regionals combined).

After 2 days of wrestling, the following girls advanced to the Masters Tournament, making them the MHHS athletes who have competed at the Highest level of postseason competition:
Ramona Jimenez placed 3rd in the 170 lb. weight class
Andrea Alegre placed 4th in the 137 lb. weight class
Michelle Poland placed 4th in the 111 lb. weight class
Amanda Kim placed 8th in the 121 lb. weight class.

Please join me in congratulating these girls for their hard work and accomplishment. They will compete in the Sac-Joaquin Masters Tournament at McNair HS in Stockton on February 16th and 17th.

Academic Decathalon Success

Congratulations to the Academic Decathalon team for their big win in competition this past weekend.  Team adviser Ms. D'Souza took her team to the competition and the team achieved the following distinctions:

- 1st place Winner at the club level.

 - Winner of the Most Improved Team Award ( An improvement of +2000 points over last year)

- 3rd place Winner for the SuperQuiz

Individual placement winners were:

Gurkiran (Khushi) Bains: 1st place in Essay, 1st place in Music

Nikhita Nair: 1st place in Social Science

Travis Duong: 3rd place in Economics

Congratulations to the team for their success in their first competition of the year.

New Volunteer/visitor Sign-In procedures

Lammersville Unified and Mountain House High School will be implementing a new volunteer/visitor management system starting on Monday, January 22, 2018.  This system will enhance school security by reading a visitor's drivers' license (or other approved state issued ID) and compare it to information on law enforcement databases.  If a match is found in the database, school administration will be notified and we will be able to keep unwanted visitors out.  Our district has published a memo explaining the new system that can be accessed by CLICKING HERE. 

We believe that by employing this new system will increase the safety of our schools, and provide an enhanced customer service experience that increases accuracy and is user friendly.  If you have question about the new system, please contact our school, or the LUSD Human Resources office at 209.836.7400.

STUDENT ALERT! Learning Commons Opens!

The new MHHS Learning Commons is now opening for student use during the school day, and into the evening.

READ THIS POST CLOSELY and follow all of the directions if you would like to use the new Learning Commons.  

Did you know that the Learning Commons is now open for use as a quiet study space?  As of Monday 12/11/17, we are opening up the Learning Commons every day starting at 7:30 A.M.  The Learning Commons will be open every day until 6:00 P.M.  We are excited to have this space open for students to come in and have a quiet study space.  Before you come use the Learning Commons, you must read the following rules, and take a short quiz to show that you understand the rules of the Learning Commons.

Learning Commons Rules:

1. The Learning Commons is open as a QUIET study space from 7:30 A.M. until 6:00 P.M.
2. No Food, no drink is allowed in the library except for water in closed containers.
3. Cell Phones must be on silent.  If you take a call, you must take it outside.
4. Use of earphones/earbuds is OK, but they must be low enough that people around you cannot hear it.
5. Furniture in the Learning Commons should not be moved without permission from the Librarian, or the Library Clerk.
6. Our Librarian’s name is Mrs. Hecht and our Library Clerk’s name is Mrs. Korde
7. There are two conference rooms in the Learning Commons that can be used for group study sessions.  You must ask permission from the librarian or library clerk.
8. The Learning Commons may be used all day before school, during flex periods, during SUCCESS!, during lunch, or after school.  
9. Students who want to socialize are still welcome to be in the Multi-Use room for most of the school day.
10. The Learning Commons may close at specific times, or during specific days depending on the needs of the school.  
11. At this time, students can access the library through the door marked “G102”.  You can find this door between the Learning Commons and the A building.  The lobby area and the restrooms are off limits at this time.  Students needing to use the restroom must access them in the A building.  
12. ALL STUDENTS who plan on using the learning commons must be wearing their ID card in order to access the library.  Your ID card must be on and visible at all times.  Students not wearing their ID are not allowed.  

We hope that students will enjoy using the new learning commons.  It is exciting to be using this new building.  In the coming weeks and months, we are purchasing thousands of new print books, and thousands of additional ebooks that you can access from your Chromebook or through your personal phone or tablet.

Now...please take the short quiz attached to this email by CLICKING HERE.  You will receive a confirmation email with your score within 5 minutes of submitting your quiz. Your first visit to the Learning Commons you must visit the librarian at the circulation desk and show the email that you completed the quiz and correctly answered the questions.  Make sure you are wearing your ID card.

Winter Concert for Band and Choir

The Mountain House High School Music Department will hold their 2017 Winter Concert tonight @ 7PM in the MHHS Large Gym. This concert will feature our Award winning Marching band, Symphonic Band, Choirs, and Orchestra. General Admission is  $6 for Adults and $3 for Students and children. Members of the Elementary music classes grades 5-8 are Free along with their families if they wear their music department shirts. Attendance Procedures Clarification

Did you know that attendance in school is one of the most important factors that impact student success?  Think about the following facts about school attendance:

• Research shows that missing as few as 18 days in a school year negatively affects a student's academic performance.  
• Over 7 million students in the U.S. miss nearly a month of school each year.
• The academic impact of missing school is the same whether the absences are excused or unexcused.

The MHHS administration is looking to cut down on the amount of absences, especially those that are unexcused absences.  We recently sent home a lengthy email to let all parents know about some of the ways we are going to emphasize the importance of attendance, and cut down on unexcused absences.  Here's a "Reader's Digest" version of what the letter says:

ATTENDANCE POLICIES

• ANY and ALL absences and tardies MUST be cleared by a parent within 72 hours of the absence.  ALL absences after this time become unexcused.
• Any student who acquires over 18 days of excused absences will be required to bring a doctor's note for future excused absences
• The following absences CANNOT be excused
• Vacations
• Oversleeping
• Parent dropped of student late
• Car trouble
• Any absence that is not cleared within 72 hours.

CONSEQUENCES FOR UNEXCUSED ABSENCES

• 1 or more unexcused absences in any give day result in Saturday School
• Students with more than 4 Saturday Schools lose extra-curricular sport or activity privledges, work permits, and Seniors can lose off-campus lunch privileges.

SUCCESS! ATTENDANCE

• Students assigned to SUCCESS! are required to attend every day until their grade(s) get up to a B.
• Students who do not attend SUCCESS! will be assigned Detention on the very next school day.  

American Mathematics Competition

When:  Wednesday, February 7th  from   3:45 pm - 4:30 pm

Who: Any High School LUSD student. This is a perfect opportunity for a student that REALLY enjoys math and problem solving challenges to try a fun, national math contest. Space is limited, so please enroll only if there is strong interest.

In preparation for the AMC 10/12 annual national math competition, Lammersville Unified School District high school students are invited to compete in the AMC 10/12 contest.  This is a 75-minute, proctored, multiple-choice exam using no calculators.

The AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below, and covers the high school curriculum up to 10th grade. Students in grade 10 or below and under 17.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 10.  The AMC 12 covers the entire high school curriculum including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but excluding calculus. Students in grade 12 or below and under 19.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 12.
