While many students were relaxing during Spring Break, these students were working hard for the State Leadership Conference (SLC) Mar 28- 30. Preparing and practicing for a variety of events including CPR/ First Aid, Public Health, Prepared Speaking, Research Persuasive Speaking, Forensic Science, HOSA Bowl, Extemporaneous Poster, Medical Innovations, Job Seeking Skills, Public Service Announcement, Outstanding HOSA Chapter and HOSA Happenings filled the days leading up to the the Conference. At the conference days were filled with orientations, competitions, workshops, ceremonies and trying to find time to fit in breakfast, lunch and dinner. Several students participated in the Yellow Ribbon training focused on suicide awareness and prevention skills. Many others attended workshops that were filled with fun and knowledge surrounding the world of Health Science. Several lucky students attended Camp Cal-HOSA, a leadership development seminar. Keynote speakers inspired the students, especially Dr Bennett Omalu (discoverer of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and featured in the movie Concussion), who spoke about keeping true to oneself and believing in oneself. Current HOSA State Officer, Ormina Naveed, passed the torch to Jannat Ashfaq. Jannat was elected Cal-HOSA Region 1 Vice President during the Business Session. Jannat will be one the the Cal-HOSA student board setting direction for over 9500 California HOSA members. All students who attended SLC are champions because throughout the year they have developed new skills and new friends. Below are the students recognized as finalists in events this year.
