HOSA State Leadership Conference 2018

The HOSA Future Health Professionals Student Organization has grown with Mountain House High School over the last four years.  In 2014 we took our first group of only twelve students to Sacramento for the State Leadership Conference. It was a big learning experience for all of us.  During Spring Break forty six students traveled to Anaheim for the State Leadership Conference along with over 3000 students from across. It was an amazing five days filled with camaraderie and friendship.

The conference is organized like other professional conferences with badges, keynote, speakers, displays, workshops as well as student competitions.  Rick Rigsby,  the second keynote speaker, was beyond dynamic receiving a standing ovation from the students.  The other keynote speakers were also very moving speaking about their experiences with stroke and mental health issues and how healthcare professionals have helped them over the years.  Some of the workshops available were suturing, bleeding control, careers, mental health, health issues. Two groups of MHHS student participated in the Friday evening Talent Show - Bollywood Dance Trio and HOSA Parody Song were the acts.  HOSA Parody Song performed by Manal Rasheed, Vedika Kanaki, Sriya Chilukuri and Tanaya Kollipara won first place allowing the MHHS students to sit in the front row for the Closing Ceremony.

Of course the main focus of the competition was on student demonstrating their skills in health care/ biomedical science.  This an image of one MHHS simulating a patient when she volunteered for courtesy corp and another student completing the transfer a patient to a wheelchair skill in the Nurse Assisting competition.

Ormina Naveed was nominated to run as a California HOSA State Officer.   She interviewed with HOSA officers. Then participated in a member Meet and Greet during the conference.  Student voting delegates elected her during the HOSA Business Session. and she was inducted on stage at the Closing Ceremony as Region 1 Vice President.  We are incredibly proud of her achievement.

The State Leadership Conference was an amazing experience for everyone involved.  We would like to thank the following people:
