HOSA Future Health Professionals Parent Meeting
“HOSA is a global student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services and several federal and state agencies. HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience. HOSA actively promotes career opportunities in the health industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. “ (HOSA.org)
Students who are enrolled (or will be enrolled next year ) in the Biomedical Professional Pathway at Mountain House High School are eligible to join HOSA. HOSA provides an avenue for students to develop health science knowledge, build leadership skills, improve communication skills and much more. HOSA is a community within MHHS but also across the state and nation. A common comment by HOSA students is about how welcoming and friendly students from other HOSA chapters are.
Our HOSA chapter grows each year and the costs associated with HOSA are also growing. This year 79 students qualified for the State Leadership Conference competitions. 30 students placed as finalists in an array of events and many earned Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. We want to provide opportunities for as many students as possible to compete in HOSA competitions and provide additional opportunities for HOSA students to explore biomedical professions and education. To this end we need parent support to fundraise and to chaperone events. All parents of current HOSA students (Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors) or future HOSA students please attend the :

Full Return to School--May 10th
Mountain House High School will be returning to school with all face-to-face students 5 days a week on May 10th. Please see below for specifics about the return-to-school on Monday, May 10th:
- All students in the face-to-face or hybrid (OC) program will return to school Monday through Friday. Please see the Bell Schedule Document for the full bell schedule. Please note that school will now start at 8:00 A.M.
- Students in the fully online pathway (OP), which means all their classes are online classes through Edgenuity, will not need to return to campus. The testing center will no longer be opened, and students will need to schedule assessments with their OP teacher.
- Students in the hybrid online (OC) classes through Edgenuity will be required to attend class periods if the teacher requests, and anytime the student needs to take a test.
- All Students in hybrid online (OC) and fully online classes (OP) through Edgenuity must remember that the end date for these courses is set for 05/21/21. This means all coursework and the final should be completed by this date. Students who need an extension should work with their teacher.
- Students will still be required to sign up for SUCCESS! each day. Failure to do so will result in an absence.
- MHHS is still a closed campus, and only students who have signed and returned off-campus privilege forms will be allowed to leave campus.
- Students and parents should also check the Bell Schedule Document to review the finals schedule for the last week of school.
As always, our aim is to provide a safe and sanitized environment for our students. As students return, we will continue to require the wearing of masks, the use of cleaning products, and regular sanitization of shared spaces on campus.
We look forward to our full return to campus, and encourage you to reach out to us if you have any additional
Graduation Ceremony 2021
We’d like to thank all of our students and families of the class of 2021. Your journey has been one for the record books. While this year has been full of disappointments and missed opportunities, we look forward to salvaging the end of the year with some near-to-normal events.
One of these events is our graduation ceremony for the class of 2021. We are proud to announce that we are planning our in-person graduation ceremonies in the high school stadium “The Range” on June 4, 2021 at 6:00 P.M. Our graduation ceremony will be carefully planned to ensure all safety protocols established by the California Department of Public Health are followed by all participants. As a school and district, we will make every effort to create an atmosphere of celebration and normalcy as our Seniors graduate and move on to college, careers, and beyond.
Guidelines that will be followed include the following:
All participants will be required to wear a face covering.
Only 3 members of each household may attend
No out-of-state or out-of-country attendees unless proof of vaccination is provided
Social distancing must be maintained
Attendees are not to be permitted if they or any family member has COVID related symptoms.
We urge all families to remember that CDPH guidance could change the structure of the ceremony, increase or decrease in capacity, or even face cancellation depending on COVID case rates and tier changes. Please be assured that we will be working to do all that we can to ensure a safe and enjoyable graduation ceremony for all.
We look forward to inviting our Mustang Ohana back to campus to celebrate this significant milestone in the lives of our Seniors.

4th Quarter Progress Report Posted
- Quarter Progress Grades are not "official" grades as they are NOT included on the permanent student transcript
- Quarter Progress Grades give you a good idea of student mastery of concepts at this time.
- This is the LAST progress report card before the end of the semester when permanent grades are recorded.
As always, parents and students who are concerned about their grade at this time should contact their teachers to talk about how they might be able to improve their performance and demonstrate mastery of skills and concepts in their classes.

Mountain House High School Student Takes Science and Engineering Awards
Cyclo.Plas: Jacqueline developed a thin, plastic-like film from fish scales inspired by her diet and trips to the fish market. It has tensile strengths comparable to Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and is capable of biodegrading, which is an improvement over LDPE plastic. This project recently won first place in the Environmental Science category at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS). Jacqueline Prawira received a $12000 scholarship.
Cyclo.Plas 2: This project was inspired by the pandemic and the 3D-printed face shield operation Jacqueline conducted. When Jacqueline selected PLA filament as a bioplastic to make the face shields, she found that PLA waste can only be composted in industrial composting facilities. Unfortunately, none are available in our area. Additionally, PLA waste is not easily recycled, meaning it accumulates in landfill/environment like other plastics. Jacqueline believes that we shouldn’t have to choose between the health of our community and the health of our environment. So she developed compostable materials using biomimicry of the fish scale waste composition with the goal of replacing single-use plastics including non-medical PPE. Jacqueline liaised with Mr. Mario Cuellar from Hitachi and Dr. Karl Weiss from Arizona State University to remotely access a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to view and refine the structure of her engineered materials. Jacqueline’s bioengineering accomplishments are an important step forward in reducing waste and the prevalence of plastics/ microplastics in our environment.
Jacqueline presented Cyclo.Plas 2 at the SacSTEM Regional Science Fair, winning first place in the Sustainable Technology Category and the Grand Award (Top Project at the Fair). She qualified for and presented at the state level (results are still pending). As the Grand Award winner at the Regional Science Fair, Jacqueline has been named a finalist for the 2021 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). This is her second year competing at ISEF. At ISEF 2019, Jacqueline won second place in the Material Science category and was awarded a $1500 scholarship and special awards from the National Security Agency and the Environmental Protection Agency. Jacqueline was the first student from Mountain House High School to ever compete at ISEF. This year her brother Jordan, who is also a Grand Prize Winner, is attending and competing at ISEF this coming May 16-21, 2021.
