Cheer Tryouts--Meeting Date Change

It's that time of year.  Cheer tryouts are fast approaching.  Here are some important dates  PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DATE FOR THE PARENT MEETING HAS CHANGED TO MAY 3RD AT 5PM:

Summer School Information Meeting- 5/5

There will be an informational meeting for any parents that have questions about summer school at MHHS next Thursday (5/5) at 7 pm in the MPR. This year's summer school will run from June 6-July 14 and will be 4 days a week. Students currently enrolled in grades 9-11 who need to recover credits may enroll in summer school. Summer school is offered only to those students who need to recover credits in courses that they got Ds or Fs in.

Public Track Usage Opens

The Lammersville Unified School District has approved a Pilot Program to allow the general public access to the all-weather track on a limited basis.  Our high school has worked to put together a schedule where incidental public track usage will be permitted.  A webpage with dates and times that the track will be open is posted on the high school webpage.  There is a link on the bottom right of the homepage to access public track usage hours.  CLICK HERE for a quick link to the page that details the following:

1. Rules and regulations regarding the public use of the track.
2. Live updated dates and times the track is available for public use.  

The first time the track will be open is Saturday April 30th.  Please check the website HERE before you visit, and remember to follow the rules!

Athletics Boosters Updates

Here are a few events that are coming up:

Tomorrow there's a Track n Field meet at home vs Millenium starting at 3:30.

Jack Frost will be there after school selling their yummy Italian Ice for $3 per cup. They are donating $1 per cup sold to the senior class for their senior trip. So come cheer on the athletes and support the senior class.

For those that love to cook, we are having a Pampered Chef fundraiser with 20% of sales going to the senior class. Click on the link below to place an order.

Don't forget to sign up for our next Dodgeball Tournament which will be nextFriday, May 6th at 7pm in the small gym. Everyone had a blast at the last one. We would love to see more teams compete! Forms are on our website at MHHSboosters.org

Senior Class Fundraiser

Senior Class Needs Your Help!

The senior class parents are making a big push to raise funds for our first graduating senior class.  Our "small but mighty" senior class of 47 students are raising funds to be able to throw a senior grad night party after graduation, and is seeking donations from the Mountain House community.  We are looking to send these students out with a bang and provide a fun activity for them the night of their graduation.  The senior class has set up a "Gofundme" account, and is looking for any kind of donation that you may be able to make.  We encourage as many of you as possible to donate to our senior class to make the end of their year memorable!  https://www.gofundme.com/mhseniors2016 

Non-Returning Students

As our school year comes to a close, we understand that there are some families who will move away, or not be continuing in the Lammersville Unified School District.  As such, we are interested in making sure we make appropriate plans, and ask that parents who have students who will not be continuing next school year please visit our online form to notify us if your are not staying in the Lammersville Unified School District next year.  We encourage you to fill out that form by visiting it online at the following link: CLICK HERE.

Powderpuff Football Game

On May 12 from 6 P.M to 8 P.M. our first annual Powder Puff football game will commence.  Our all Female football players and all Male cheerleaders will play in the stadium during the first annual Powder Puff. Students can get into the game for $3 and the general public can attend for $5. Come on down for a great night!

Mr. Mustang Pageant

On April 29th at 6 P.M. MHHS is hosting the first annual Mr. Mustang pageant. Male students that have applied and selected prior to the event will participate in three rounds. Each contestant shows off their beach wear, formal attire and their special talent for the judges, who will score them and crown the winner. Admission to the pageant is $5 for students and $7 for the general public. This should be a fun event for students and parents alike.  Come on down and see our very first Male Beauty Pageant.

Community Service Requirement

This is a reminder that community service hours are a REQUIREMENT for graduation from Mountain House High School.  SENIORS!!! It is ESSENTIAL that you turn in your community service hours.  District graduation requirements require ALL students to complete 40 hours of community service before you graduate high school.  Because our senior class is new, we are requiring that 10 of those hours be completed to make seniors eligible for graduation.  

Students who do not complete the community service requirement are not qualified to graduate per district graduation policy.  Senior need to turn in their community service hours ASAP.  

Students who complete more than their 40 community service hours are eligible for recognition.  Students can receive a block letter for their hours by completing at least 200 hours of community service during their high school years.  Students who earn 300 hours or more before their senior year are eligible for the community service senior award.  

If you have questions about where to do your community service, come ask in the main office.  We use an online service finder to post and refer community service opportunities.  Visit justserve.org, and type in your zip code for local opportunities for community service.  

10 Grade Science CST Testing Coming Up

Each spring, most students in California participate in the statewide testing program, which is the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System. The tests in the CAASPP System provide information to teachers, parents/guardians, and students about students’ progress and readiness for college and career. This year, your child will take one of the following CAASPP tests for science:

• California Standards Test (CST) for Science
• California Modified Assessment (CMA) for Science

Assessments for Science

California has adopted new science standards and is currently developing assessments that are aligned with these standards. During the transition to new science assessments, students in grades five, eight, and twelve will take the CST or CMA, as identified above.

Next Year’s Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments

Next year, as a grade eleven student, your child will be taking part in the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy and mathematics.  These new, online tests are based on higher academic standards and are part of California’s comprehensive plan for high-quality teaching and learning. Results from the tests will have a direct impact on the California State University’s (CSU’s) Early Assessment Program. The CSU and participating community colleges will use student results as an indicator of student readiness for college-level coursework. For more information, please see the CSU’s Early Assessment Program Web page at http://www.csusuccess.org/caaspp.

The CDE has developed several resources to help parents and students understand the grade expectations of the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments:  

• The Parent Guides to the Smarter Balanced Assessments (in English and Spanish) are posted on the CDE’s CAASPP Web page, under the Students and Parents Tab, at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/index.asp?tabsection=3#ssr. Separate guides have been developed for each of the three grade spans tested: grades 3–5, grades 6–8, and grade 11. Each guide explains the grade-level expectations for students in ELA and mathematics and provides sample test items.

• The practice and training tests, which can be found on the CDE’s Smarter Balanced Practice and Training Tests Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sa/practicetest.asp, can help parents and students experience the type of test items that students will encounter on the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments. ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS

Thanks to those of you who indicated your interest in helping plan a Senior Grad Night Party after Graduation for this year's Senior Class of 2016. The committee has decided to meet Tuesday April 18th at 5:30 P.M. in room A151.  All who are interested in helping plan this event are invited to attend.  

Senior Parents will be discussing the type of event that should be planned, the cost of the event, and other details important to making a potential Grad Night party successful.

11th Grade CAASPP Testing Coming Up

11th Grade CAASPP Testing

April 27-28, 2016

Each spring, most students in California participate in the statewide testing program, the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System. The tests in the CAASPP System provide information to teachers, parents/guardians, and students about students’ progress and readiness for college and career. This year, 11th graders at Mountain House High School will take the following tests:

·         Smarter Balanced test for mathematics

·         Smarter Balanced test for English language arts/literacy (ELA)

The Smarter Balanced online tests are based on the new California Content Standards, also known as the Common Core State Standards, for mathematics and ELA. For eleventh graders, these tests will have a direct impact on the California State University’s (CSU’s) Early Assessment Program (EAP). The CSU and participating California community colleges will use student results from the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments as a student’s EAP status in English and mathematics:

• Students who score at the highest performance level (“Standard Exceeded”) are considered ready for college-level coursework in English and/or mathematics and exempt from taking the CSU English Placement Test (EPT) and/or Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) exam. 

• Students who score at the “Standard Met” performance level are considered conditionally ready for college-level coursework in English and/or mathematics and exempt from taking the CSU English Placement Test (EPT) and/or Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) exam. However, they must take an approved English and/or mathematics course in twelfth grade and receive a grade of “C” or better. Students that do not meet the conditional requirement will need to participate in the CSU’s Early Start Program, unless exemption was met through another pathway. 

• Students who score at the “Standard Nearly Met” performance level are considered not yet ready for college-level coursework in English and/or mathematics and will need additional preparation in the twelfth grade. They will also be required to take the CSU English Placement Test (EPT) and/or Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) exam unless they meet the exemption criteria through another pathway.  

• Students who score at the “Standard Not Met” performance level are considered not ready for college-level work in English and/or mathematics. They will need substantial improvement to demonstrate knowledge and skills needed for success in entry-level credit-bearing college coursework after high school.

Students wishing to inform the CSU and participating community colleges of their EAP status may submit their CAASPP results by selecting the release button at the end of each CAASPP exam (i.e., for both the ELA and mathematics assessments). Maximus Awards: Senior Awards Night

Attention all MHHS Seniors and parents of Seniors!  The Maximus Awards (our first annual senior awards night) is fast approaching.  The Maximus Awards is an opportunity for the school to celebrate the wonderful things that students have done as they have been here at MHHS, and an opportunity for us to honor students who are receiving scholarships and awards from outside organizations.
In order for us to honor students for honors they are receiving outside the school, we need parents and students to report to us what those honors are.  If your student is receiving an honor this coming year, it is important that you report it to us.  To submit a report of the honor(s) your student may be receiving, please submit it online by clicking below:

Chromebook Inventory

As we near the end of the year, we are preparing to account for all of the devices that have been checked out to students this school year.  As such, our IT department will be sending home a letter to each student with the devices that have been checked out to them.  Students who have lost or damaged devices will be billed for missing or damaged devices.  Please see the letter below from our MHHS IT department:

Dear MHHS Parents,

Your student(s) will receive a letter from the I.T. Department informing them if they have any DEVICE (Chromebook or AC power adaptor) checked out to them in our inventory system. Most of our students will have one Dell Chromebook and one AC power adaptor checked out to them, but some students will have multiple DEVICES due to borrowing a LOANER Chromebook or AC power adaptor while repairing the damaged DEVICE or if they had forgotten their DEVICE at home.  

Beginning in May, your student will be instructed to “SCAN-IN” all DEVICES checked out to them. This is to insure accuracy of our inventory, that there is no damage done to DEVICE, and that the DEVICE is ready for Summer Break. Students who do not “SCAN-IN” all devices by the last day of school,Thursday, May 26th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. will be sent replacement a bill for each DEVICE ($329 for Dell Chromebook and/or $50 for Dell AC Power Adaptor). 

All high school students will be allowed to take their DEVICES home over the Summer Break. This will allow students who are enrolled in AP, Honor Classes, and/ or summer school to utilize and access material provided over the Summer.  Students will also be able to use for Summer Reading through MackinVIA.
