MHHS administration has learned of a new application called "Periscope" that our students have begun using on campus through their smartphones. This application allows students to publicly stream live video of themselves and others while on our campus. The application either pairs with students' Twitter accounts or their phone numbers. While we traditionally encourage the use of digital applications, we believe that parents should be aware of this application as we believe that it can significantly violate our students' privacy. This application broadcasts live video of the student, and allows ANYONE in the world who has this application to view this video live OR replayed back after the video is completed. It also pinpoints where the user is on a GPS map. A LARGE group of our students have begun using this app on our campus, and we will be communicating with them about the use of this application. Also important to remember in regards to recording on school campuses is the fact that it is against the law in the State of California for any individual to record audio or video on school campuses without the express permission of teachers and administration. After we communicate this with students, those found using this application while on our campus will be subject to disciplinary action. If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

LUSD Full Scale Safety Exercise
As a parent, knowing that your child is safe at school is extremely important. A couple of important safety related questions parents need answers to are: What are the safety plans at the school sites? What reunification process the school sites follow during emergencies?
Schools in Lammersville Unified School District (LUSD) constantly review and revise plans for emergencies. Safety is a top priority in Lammersville Unified School District! We will be running a full scale safety exercise at MHHS on March 16th and will be asking for volunteer parents and students to participate so we can practice our safety procedures. For more information, please visit our full press release by CLICKING HERE. Look for opportunities to volunteer in the near future.

MHHS News 1
Thanks to a dedicated group of rookie newscasters, MHHS broadcast its first edition of MHHS news. We are excited to be able to begin offering newscasts every Advisory day, and look forward to video announcements multiple times per week. Take a look at our very first newscast!
Online Library
While Mountain House High School doesn't have a physical library at this point, we have planned ahead by purchasing over 17,000 digital books, and access to online databases for students and teachers to use. Each year we add books and resources to this list. Students can login to the library NOW! Our online library is called Mackin Via and can be found at mackinvia.com.
Here's how you log on:
Go to our online library website: www.mackinvia.com
In the School line type "Mountain House High School" and select our school.
The User ID is the student's school ID number
The password is the student's birthday using 2 digits for month, 2 digits for day, and 2 digits for year. (ex: if my birthday is January 1, 2001 my password would be 010101)
Once students login, they can access the library of books that we have.
If you want a quick tutorial, take a look at the following video:
https://vimeo.com/85825759
Mackinvia also has apps for your smartphone or tablet. You can read books, highlight and make notes, and save them in your "backpack." Even if you check the book back in to the digital library, your notes are saved forever!

Advisory--Overexposed/Sexting
Today's advisory lesson included a sensitive, yet essential topic for the youth in our school, and in this generation. In this lesson, students explored the following essential question: What are the risks and responsibilities when you share online in a relationship? During this lesson, students explore the risks and responsibilities of carrying out romantic relationships in the digital world. They watch a video about a girl who sent a sext message to her boyfriend, which he then shared with others. After discussing the video, students create an ending to a story about a girl who is pressured to sext. They brainstorm ways to avoid sexting and to use digital technologies responsibly in romantic relationships.
To view the video included in this lesson watch the video embedded here in this post:
School Accountability Report Card
Each year, public schools are required to prepare a School Accountability Report Card (SARC). The report card is published mid school year, and includes data from the previous academic year. The SARC is meant to provide parents and the community with important information about our school. A SARC is one way for us to report on our progress in achieving the goals we have set for ourselves and the expectations that are placed upon us by the state and federal government. Our completed SARC is now available on our website by CLICKING HERE.

Night to Remember Winter Formal
MHHS is prepping for our 2nd annual Winter Formal "Night to Remember." As we prepare for Winter Formal, please note that we do still need volunteers to help with decorations, and we need donations of goodies for the dance. If you would like to volunteer to help decorate on Friday evening (02/05/16) please email Mrs. Lynch at alynch@lammersvilleusd.net. If you would like to donate goodies, please drop them off in the main office on Friday 2/5 during the school day.
This is also a good time to remind our parents and students of the dance policies and dress code. Please visit the link by CLICKING HERE to learn more about the dance policies and dress code. For further clarification, our leadership students have prepared a visual guide that further explains the dress code CLICK HERE.

Congratulations HOSA Club
Our HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) club recently returned from the Area Leadership Conference where our students had the opportunity to compete with students from all over our area. We had a strong showing at the competition, and many of our students came home with awards. Congratulations to the following students for their efforts, and congratulations to their teacher and adviser Ms. Kris Olson! FBI Academy for Juniors
Are you interested in careers in law enforcement? Have you ever been interested in gaining hands-on experience with law enforcement professionals? If you are a current Junior at MHHS, you qualify to apply for the new FBI academy. The academy is open to any Junior who is interested in the workings of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). National School Counseling Week
Did you know that this week is national school counseling week? Our counselors at MHHS work hard to develop and run a counseling program that supports students' academic and social/emotional well being. Let's celebrate school counseling week by honoring our school counselors and the hard work that they do! Send a quick email to your counselor this week to tell them how much you appreciate them! Thanks so much to Mrs. Friesen and Dr. Sweeden!
Here's some more information about school counseling week:
National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 1–5, 2016, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
The special week honoring school counselors provides recognition for school counselors who implement comprehensive school counseling programs, a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century.
"School counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students’ academic concerns, career awareness in post-secondary options and personal/social skills,” said Kwok-Sze Wong, Ed.D., ASCA executive director. “Comprehensive school counseling programs help to increase student achievement and provide a much-needed resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. School counselors are integral to student success."
Professional school counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master's degree in guidance and counseling. The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of the total educational program. More general information can also be found on ASCA's website, www.schoolcounselor.org
